I’ve started getting into free apps for my Smartphone recently. I was resistant at first, since it took me forever just to learn how to actually make a phone call on my new phone, but now that I’ve gotten the hang of things, I’ve started what may be an app obsession.
Over the weekend, I found three free apps for the Smartphone that are great for vegetarians and vegans. These could all be a big help during the hustle and bustle of the holidays, too, since they make meal planning and shopping so much easier. Anything that can help with that is exceedingly welcome on my phone.
The first one is the VeganYumYum app from VeganYumYum blogger and cookbook author Lolo.
It has a really clean, intuitive display that’s easy to read and navigate, which is a biggie for me. With this app, you can search through thousands of recipes and even check off ingredients as you buy them in the grocery store. I’ve tried several recipes from VeganYumYum and will happily testify that they were all wonderful. Lots of dishes here that you may not have seen anywhere else.
Epicurious, which is one of my most favorite recipe sites, also has a free Smartphone app.
It’s not specifically for vegans and vegetarians, but you can search through their huge database of amazing recipes using a number of ingredients or keywords such as “vegetarian”, “vegan” or “gluten-free”. This is a great app for those times when you’ve found a great deal on eggplant but don’t know what you want to do with it. Search, get your recipe and then pick up the rest of the ingredients while you’re there.
The third app is from Whole Foods.
Again, this one isn’t just for vegans and vegetarians, but it’s easily searchable for great vegetarian and vegan recipes. You don’t have to shop at Whole Foods to get some great use out of this app, either.
Now if they can just come up with an app that will cook and then clean up after dinner.
